Northpoint Bomb - The Crazy in all of us

Yes BTWD is always a PIA for me. Thursdays are my work from home days. So, do I pawn my kids off to my wife that day for the greater good? Or do I organize my traditional no drop ride with the masses? Of course the race up hill to the bridge is the exception, but we do reconvene for a photo op. Or do I ride up solo to Mt Tam's East peak, hiking to the top where I can salute all drivers everywhere with my middle finger to the sky?

My buddies thought I had some anger issues when I shared those thoughts. Don't worry, I'm a driver first so I'm understanding of the crazy decisions drivers take. For example, it's perfectly normal when two buses are parked illegally, that you should swing your SUV around them quickly towards oncoming cars and bikes. Oh, and when you see that happen, as a driver of a Semi you definitely take advantage of the distraction by heading head on to the parked cars (and bikes in bike lane) simply so that you can reverse into the back door of the market. And, well with all these delays it makes sense to roll your back window down so your dog can stick it's teeth outside to snarl at bicyclists as you buzz them closer than three feet. At least they are entertained and not suffocating. And since the dreamlike sirens walking the sidewalks now have your attention, I too may press the brakes suddenly to get a better look at the expense of the cyclist headed for my rear bumper, or as a cyclist at the expense of going down in a pot hole. Makes sense right?  And sure, windows are down and traffic is slow so I too will start blaring my music so no one can hear anything that is happening except for thump thump..thump..thump (repeat). Mind you all this happens often within the three to four blocks we cyclists know of as crazy. Strava terms the flagged route as Northpoint Bomb but it may better named Crazy Ride 3000 for your xBox. Gamers would love it. But any segment here gets flagged sooner than you can say "Prius I can't hear you" five times fast. So the city, instead of oh you know send someone to watch the  ridiculous actions of buses and trucks, instead sends someone to ticket cyclists for running a stop sign at the corner of Vanness and Northpoint. The beginning of crazy and arguably the most tame section of it. Perfect sense. Yes they should be ticketed. But let's not turn a blind eye to the party down the street.

I'm not bitter, just on a roll and I intend to keep it that way. Now stop reading this as you drive. A parked car is about to open their door while a cyclist goes by.  You'll want to see what happens next.
