Committed

I was committed, and had to make a split second decision. I glance to my left and the 18 wheeler was not backing down from its spot in the number 2 lane. Perfect, for at 26mph and  gaining I had to evade the stopped van just ahead of me in the number four lane.

Weaving like a messenger I pull ahead of the truck and start to make my way to the number two lane. Instead I was greeted by a Corrolla that passed the truck quickly on it's left side. I grab the horns and lean my way straight ahead mindful not to slow down with the truck bearing down. Almost instantly another van pops out of another alley to our left and shoots across all four lanes, greeted by a chorus of horns. My weight thrown forward, the Corolla also crouched down it's front bumper as we braked in unison. But the dance was fleeting for there was a green light ahead that we were gunning for.

We missed it. I pulled up to the Corolla's open window and apologized to the driver. I thought maybe I scared her as we were both vying for the same lane. She looked at me and said "Oh no, you were fine but that van, that Stupid van!"

I could only smile and laugh. After all it's a beautiful day in the Bay Area. Ed and I already put on a a good chase of an ex pro this morning. And after we dropped that idea, we both got some PRs while climbing the Headlands.

It's bike to work month but for many of us it's just another beautiful commute to work on any given day of the year. This was explained very well to Alex Savidge as he interviewed Destroyer and Todd on Bike to Work Day. I didn't get interviewed myself, but my a$$ did make a cameo on the news as I rode away into the distance. JLo would be proud.
