Sailing with North Easterly Winds
High wind advisory was in effect this morning. But Ed and I agreed we've definitely ridden through worse. But then at Sausalito, we meet up with two hard core riders. One of which warned us to be super careful on the Golden Gate Bridge. To basically hang on for your lives. Fantastic. After they drop us we were comfortably riding with a strong taliwind pushing us along. I could have probably gotten a PR up to the bridge as well since the wind was even pushing us up the hill. However the north easertrly winds created havoc for those riding into Marin. At Vista Point Ed had flatted. It actually took both of his to change his impossibly tight tire. We quickly learned how inadequately prepared he was for a flat, having a short stemmed spare inner tube and no coupler for his C02s, it was a good thing I was with him. I had just gone through this exercise myself, a month ago thinking I was covered until I couldn't pump up my tire with a short stemmed spare.
Just then a couple which crossed the bridge on their bikes pulled up just past us. "What were you so afraid of?" He said. The girlfriend replied,"I was afraid of f-(censored)-ing flying off the bridge that's what!!". The boyfriend smiled with an uncomfortable grin. Yep, I give their relationship a week, tops.
The ride across for us however was effortless. We may as well had sails on. Crissy field was another story. Together we ran a tight formation with micro rotations to get us through the headwinds to Marina Greens.
Not a great day to ride solo, but a great day for adventure. Even if that one branch almost made me fall off my bike as we slalomed down a hill. It couldn't keep us from finishing the ride.
