It's Not Always Easy

I
I've been working late, meaning my 6am roll times are a struggle. Even waking up at 4:50am I needed every second available to get ready, let alone wakeup.

All I had left to do were get on my booties and gloves. It was past 6am at Peets coffee and I figured I missed the Raiders, Then suddenly 8 of them rolled by. The chase was on. I started less than a minute back. I flew up the first hill passing a guy who happens to be my recent nemesis. Not anymore by the way.

Breathing heavy at the top my legs struggled to wake up but I kept on pushing. And finally, there they were.
200 yards ahead on the Mill Valley bike path. I was closing, only I was done. Cold and tired I just didn't have it in me. So I resigned myself to ease up and enjoy the roll. It was bittersweet of course. I know I'm still simply building base miles but I'm growing impatient. I'll be out for a week in Feb on vacation. It's much needed of course. But my mileage for Feb won't be too high. I'll need to come out strong in March. I have a double century to train for.

The cold has taken its toll on me today. Lack of sleep also won out. Then again, I did ride this morning. No two dollar ferry parking fee for me. I'm still in this game and the season has just begun. If only I had an ostrich pillow at work.
