This is Bear Territory

Last night was game three of our series against our nemesis, the Thunder. A group of self motivated, well coached, talented 6th grade kids ready to take us on. My kids also have talent and motivation. But what they also have is a kids heart. Set them on a course, show them you believe and they will reach higher than you can imagine.

So at the beginning of the game, I gathered this team of Golden Bears ( named after my alma mater) and said "guys, guys ....listen up, we are the visiting team tonight . But make no mistake about it. This court is Bear territory! So let's go out there and show them how we do this!.....on three 1-2-3 Bears!"

We were fired up the entire game. We traded the lead once and then never looked back. So when daddy is not riding, dad coaches. And if my kids can play hoops than why not I?

Afterall, cycling is a non impact sport. It is time to go pound the legs and rattle the bones back into shape. So a friend of mine invited me to a fun night of full court and 3 on 3 for just under 2 hours. There I was draining a pair of threes, missing many more, running faster than my hands could handle the ball, making mistakes, making great plays, and just having fun. That is until I tried walking down the stairs at work the next day. It was as if someone slammed a charlie horse into my thigh with every step for three flights.

My buddy assures me that after a few more nights of playing my body will adapt. And you know what, I believe him. If for anything else, these new found leg muscles can only help my climbing and maybe take me higher than I've ever gone, deep into Bear territory. I'll keep you posted on the results.
