I no longer have a typical commute route. My normal 100+ mile weeks have turned into 200 miles or more. This type of wicked effort is what's needed for me to get back into the game. Not sure how long I can last of course, and I've been waking up pretty early, riding at lunch, but my fitness (knock on wood) is still holding up.
Riding with buddies has been key of course. No longer do I have to plan on meeting times, for chances are, with the extended routes I'm doing...I'll simply run into you anyways. This happens often, where I'll run into 2-3 cycling friends on the way in to work. There always seems to be someone to ride with. Granted, my first hour is usually solo in the dark...but after that there is bound to be a group or someone to join with. A 50 mile morning goes by much faster with company.
As far as I can tell, when I catch Destroyer by November things will turn ugly. You will see us loading rides left and right on strava to counter the other guy. And the smack talk will definitely start up again. Quite a bit can happen in the next 8 weeks. Here's hoping that I can shave off another 600 miles by then.
Mileage Competition Stats as of Sept 10, 2013.
