Century Fridays are Back

Century Fridays are back. The goal is to ride 100 miles in a single commute day. This morning I started off with a crazy 3,500 foot 44 mile ride around Mt Tam (Sleeping Lady). The closer I got to Fairfax, the lighter the sky became coercing me gently to proceed up the steep climbs towards Alpine Dam. I was game, so I pushed myself on the way to Ridgecrest. But I wasn't ready for the weather ahead.

Dressed in my fav spring attire (arm/leg warmers and vest, I quickly became soaked as the aged Redwood trees dumped their fog soaked limbs all over me. Doing my best not to play slip and slide I shot out of the trees only to be greeted by fog. In fact, it was reminiscent of a few ski days I've had. White out conditions requires a slow pace for at times I couldn't see more than 10 feet in front of me. Local birds kept me company as I rolled along. They incessantly landed in front of me as if to show me the way, or to try and warm up from my lights. That's right, the winds off the Pacific were not forgiving either. Not only would they spray water off the trees and onto you, but the winds found every crevass open in my vest until I was chilled  to the bone.

When I finally arrived at the Rock Springs parking lot I was done, except I wasn't at work yet. I couldn't wait to get off that mountain. Yep, the Sleeping Lady slapped me around today. Punishment for not visiting her more often. Century Fridays have their rewards however. For I managed to grab 30 Strava cups this morning. Not bad for a solo ride.
