Not Another Sunrise

On the bright side I've found myself sorting my camera apps. How many camera apps does one need? This is what I get for taking the ferry home. Time to aggregate my phone apps into a little pile and remind myself why I got them.
Some apps are great for editing. Some specialize in filters. I like the one that lets me mark up a photo with a pen. Still others let me pick apart the data captured with the photo while others serve simply to help me load photos to the cloud. Of course I have the social media aspect of photo apps but I'm not counting Instagram or Smugmug types of apps.
As I sit here lazily on the chair trying not to breathe in the toxic mutant virus ridden air from those sick commuters surrounding me, I'm reminded that now is a good time to try the slow shutter app. That one has intrigued me. But the chair won't let go. It's hypnotized me into a semi-commute trance chanting "remember, remember". Think I just saw Mufasa as the ferry cleared through the fog. Ok fine enough if this nonsense. I'll go try. And just like that, I failed. One big motion blur of salt water (I'll spare you the details of the shot).
I instantly regretted not taking a shot of the blood red sunrise this morning. It was astounding, but how many sunrises photos can you take? Another facebook post reading Good Mo'rning - another sun rise..really, this one is better than the last one. The truth is, they're always a bit different but to the social consumer you've seen one and you've just about seem them all. But once in a while I get it just right. Such as when I departed the ferry this afternoon. The one good thing about the ferry home was riding away, and snapping Mt Tam as she curiously looked at the funnel clouds, as commuters walked through the parking lot. I was happy to stop my bike for this shot. And couldn't help but wonder why no one else stopped to take a look. If only for a brief moment.
Oh yes, that's right. A game to coach and mouths to feed, not to mention 6th grade science tests to study for. Yep, you'd think since I've already gone through 6th grade back in the 80's, this second time around would be easier. Instead I'm in a symbiotic relationship with my kids where I'm lost in food webs and energy pyramids. I explain to my son that this science is easy. I mean everyday I think I'd rather be a cyclist producing energy than a decomposer riding the ferry (no offense to my buddies on the ferry of course. Yes, I'm such a parasite at times I know). I guess you could say I've adapted, and found my niche for commuter survival. The only limiting factor I'm facing is memory for my camera apps. I suppose if I increase the death rate of my photos to increase the carrying capacity of the SD cards, then I can latch on to this idea of a mutualism between photography and cycling. There is a connection. And I'm sure some quack scientist will create a "cycling chain/web" to depict the transfer of energy as riders consume each other while racing to work. Come to think of it, I may just do that myself.
Quack quack.
